Built in 1994, the U.S. Courthouse in Urbana, Illinois, is a three-story masonry and steel structure of brick veneer over concrete block.

Key Tenants

The courthouse is home to the U.S. District, Bankruptcy and Magistrate courts and also provides office space for court-related agencies, including the U.S. Attorneys, Marshals, Probation and Public Defender.

Project Update

A project in February 2010 replaced the building’s:

• Air-cooled chiller with a water-cooled model.
• Building automation system with a new energy management system.
• Drywall skylight-shading feature with a fabric canopy.
• Old light fixtures with newer, more efficient models.

The project also installed:

• New variable-frequency drives for water distribution and air-handling units.
• New sensor controls for rain irrigation and occupancy lighting.
